INTENT

The intent of the Art and Design Curriculum at Ravenfield Primary Academy is to provide children with opportunities to develop a range of ways in which they can share and express their individual creativity, whilst learning about and making links with a wide spectrum of different types of art that reflect and shape our society. We recognise the vital role of art and design in allowing curiosity, creativity and self-expression to develop alongside resilience, confidence and critical thinking skills.

IMPLEMENTATION

Our curriculum will focus on developing children’s proficiency in drawing, painting and sculpture with a range of materials, with the overall aim of developing a rigorous understanding, critical awareness and inspiration of art and design. In addition to this, children will develop their understanding of the visual language of art with effective teaching and carefully thought out sequences of lessons and experiences linked to engaging topics.

IMPACT

Our children will learn about great artists, architects and designers in history and be provided with an accessible and engaging curriculum which will enable children to reach their full potential. They will be equipped as risk-takers, evaluators and reflective and engaged learners.
